Tourism Promotion Subcommittee

Under the Oversight of the Visit Adams County Board of Directors

Purpose

The Tourism Promotion Subcommittee exists to advise and guide the strategic use of local room tax dollars to support tourism promotion and economic development throughout Adams County, WI. The subcommittee ensures that expenditures align with community goals, municipal agreements, and the mission of Visit Adams County.

Oversight

  • The Visit Adams County Board of Directors retains ultimate authority and fiduciary responsibility.

  • The subcommittee is advisory in nature and reports regularly to the board.

  • Recommendations from the subcommittee must be presented to the board for final approval.

Composition

  • Chair (selected by subcommittee members or appointed by the board)

  • Vice Chair

  • Secretary (records minutes, distributes agendas)

  • 3–7 Additional Members, ideally representing:

    • Tourism-related businesses (hotels, restaurants, attractions)

    • Local municipalities (e.g., town/village reps who contribute room tax)

    • Parks or recreation departments

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate tourism marketing proposals, campaigns, and expenditures.

  • Make recommendations for the strategic use of room tax dollars.

  • Develop annual tourism promotion plans and goals.

  • Collaborate with local municipalities to understand priorities and align promotional efforts.

  • Monitor effectiveness of marketing initiatives and adjust strategy as needed.

  • Ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.

Meetings

  • Frequency: Monthly or bi-monthly, with additional meetings as needed.

  • Quorum: Simple majority of appointed members.

  • Reporting: Submit written reports and recommendations to the Visit Adams County Board at scheduled board meetings.

Terms of Service

  • Subcommittee members serve 2-year staggered terms to ensure continuity.

  • Reappointment allowed with board approval.

  • All officers serve a 2-year term, renewable with board confirmation.

Decision-Making Process

  • All major decisions made by majority vote of present members.

  • Recommendations require formal submission to the Visit Adams County Board for action.

Accountability

  • All subcommittee activities, including meeting minutes and budget recommendations, are subject to review by the Visit Adams County Board and should be publicly accessible to maintain transparency.
