Utilities

The utility rates in Adams County are some of the lowest in the Midwest. Electric power is supplied by Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative and Alliant Energy from an interconnected high capacity system, which is reliable and offers very competitive rates. Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative, a Touchstone Energy Partner, is the state's largest rural distribution cooperative, supplying electricity to most of Adams County and 11 other counties in south central Wisconsin. Alliant Energy is one of the few AAA bonded utilities in the nation.

There are several companies that provide telephone service to Adams County including Verizon and Marquette-Adams Telephone Cooperative. High speed and wireless internet are also available throughout much of the county.

Adams County is situated on and aquifer with a remarkable water supply. There are agricultural irrigation wells capable of discharging 500 to 1000 gallons per minute in many location throughout the county. Adams County is water rich.

The City of Adams water system has two wells that are capable of delivering a combined 1350 gallons per minute. Two elevated water towers hold a total of 475,000 gallons. The sewage system has a capacity of 436,000 gallons per day and usually operates at about half capacity.

Market Location and Transportation

Located in the heart of Wisconsin, Adams County is ideally suited for business and industry, situated halfway between Chicago and Minneapolis.

-Highways 13,21,23,73, and 82 go through Adams County, and Interstates 90/94 and 39 are only a few minutes away.

-Rail service to Adams County is provided by the Union Pacific Railroad, which runs from Minneapolis to Chicago via Milwaukee with several freight trains running each way per day. The Union Pacific also maintains a terminal in the City of Adams.

-Adams County Legion Field Airport is a public use airport located in the City of Adams. The airport provides easy access to recreation. It has a 60' x 3400' lighted, hard surface runway. The airport also offers aircraft tie-downs, vehicle parking, hangar/commercial sites, fuel, telephones, and restrooms. Scheduled air service is also available close by in Mosinee and Madison.
